Post-Operative Instructions for Facelift, Ponytail Facelift & Neck Lift
Following your surgeon's instructions carefully will help speed recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
After Surgery:
• Take all prescribed medications (including antibiotics and pain medication) exactly as directed by your surgeon.
• Keep your head elevated at a 30–45° angle while sleeping for approximately two weeks to minimize swelling.
• Sleep only on your back. Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach.
• Wear the compression garment or facial dressing if recommended by your surgeon, and for the prescribed duration.
• Keep the surgical incisions clean. Do not remove dressings or expose the incisions to water unless instructed.
• Attend all scheduled post-operative lymphatic massage sessions as directed by your surgeon.
• Avoid touching or rubbing the surgical incisions.
• Refrain from smoking, shisha, and all nicotine products for at least 4–6 weeks, as they delay wound healing.
• Avoid alcohol during the recovery period if advised by your surgeon.
• Avoid strenuous physical activity, heavy lifting, and excessive bending for 2–4 weeks.
• Do not resume vigorous exercise until your surgeon approves.
• Avoid direct sun exposure, and apply sunscreen once the incisions have completely healed.
• Stay well hydrated and maintain a healthy, protein-rich diet with adequate vitamins to promote healing.
• Mild swelling, bruising, tightness, and temporary numbness of the face are common and gradually improve over several weeks.
Contact Your Surgeon Immediately If You Experience:
• Heavy bleeding or sudden swelling, especially on one side of the face.
• Severe pain that is not relieved by prescribed medication.
• Fever or yellow, foul-smelling drainage from the incision.
• Increasing redness around the incision.
• Shortness of breath or chest pain.
• Sudden weakness of the facial muscles or noticeable changes in your smile or ability to close your eye.
Most patients can resume light daily activities within 10–14 days. However, complete resolution of swelling and the final aesthetic result may take several months. Always follow your surgeon's specific instructions, as recovery may vary depending on the facelift technique and any additional procedures performed.
